Newborn Baby Visa UAE 2026: 120-Day Deadline & Fines
Your newborn baby’s UAE visa must be done within 120 days of birth. After that, a fine of AED 100 a day applies, and your baby can’t leave the UAE until it’s sorted.
Those 120 days cover four things: the birth certificate, the passport, the residence visa and the Emirates ID. The order matters, because each step needs the one before it.
This guide is for expat parents whose baby was born in the UAE. If your baby was born abroad and is joining you, skip to the section on babies born outside the UAE.
Do these three things this week
- Register the birth with the hospital, so the birth certificate is issued within 30 days.
- Book your embassy or consulate appointment for the baby’s passport.
- Find your marriage certificate and make sure it’s attested for UAE use.
The 120-Day Timeline at a Glance
| When | What to do | What you need |
| Day 0–3 | Get the hospital birth notification | Both parents’ passports, visas and Emirates IDs |
| By Day 30 | Register the birth and collect the UAE birth certificate | Marriage certificate, hospital records |
| Day 30–45 | Get the birth certificate attested and translated for your embassy | UAE birth certificate |
| Day 45–75 | Apply for the baby’s passport | Attested birth certificate, parents’ documents |
| Day 75–100 | Apply for the residence visa | Baby’s passport, sponsor’s documents, insurance |
| By Day 120 | Complete the Emirates ID | Residence application receipt |
Treat these as targets, not guarantees. The passport step takes the longest, so start it the moment the birth certificate arrives.
Step 1: Register the Birth Within 30 Days
The UAE Government gives parents 30 days to register a birth. The hospital starts the process with the birth notification.
Who issues the birth certificate
- Dubai: Dubai Health Authority (DHA)
- Abu Dhabi: Department of Health (DoH)
- Other emirates: Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP)
A DHA or DoH stamp carries the same weight as the MOHAP seal. You don’t need certificates from more than one authority.
Have your marriage certificate ready
Your marriage certificate comes up twice in this process. Your embassy asks for it with the baby’s passport application. The registration process may ask for it too.
In our office, the file we see stall most often isn’t the baby’s paperwork. It’s a marriage certificate that was never attested for UAE use. Fix it now, while the clock still has room.
Start with the guide for your country:

Get the name right before it’s printed
Agree on the baby’s full name and spelling before the certificate is issued. Every later document copies it.
Compare the parents’ names on the form with their passports, letter for letter. A spelling error found later means a correction at the issuing authority, and that costs days you don’t have.
Step 2: Get Your Baby’s Passport
The UAE birth certificate isn’t a travel document. Your baby needs a passport from your home country before the UAE residence visa can be issued.
| Nationality | Where to apply | What the mission asks for |
| Indian | Consulate General of India, Dubai (Dubai and Northern Emirates) or the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi. Start online at indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in. | UAE birth certificate with English translation attested by UAE MOFA, both parents’ passports, visas and Emirates IDs, marriage certificate, and a declaration that the child holds no other passport |
| Filipino | Philippine Consulate General, Dubai or the Philippine Embassy, Abu Dhabi, by appointment only. File the Report of Birth first. | English birth certificate authenticated by MOH and UAE MOFA, PSA marriage certificate or Report of Marriage, both parents’ passports. The child and a parent attend in person. |
| Pakistani | Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai, or the Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi | Register the child with NADRA first, because the passport is issued against that record. Names on the birth certificate must match both parents’ NADRA records exactly. |
Don’t be fooled by the one-year window
India gives you one year to register a birth abroad. The Philippines treats a Report of Birth within 12 months as on time.
Neither helps you here. The UAE visa needs the passport inside 120 days, so work to the UAE deadline, not your home country’s.
The attestation step most parents miss
The Indian and Philippine missions both want the UAE birth certificate attested by UAE MOFA, with an English version. Many parents only discover this at the embassy counter.
Get it done in the first two weeks after the certificate arrives. Our birth certificate attestation service handles MOHAP and MOFA, and our legal translation services cover the English translation.
Step 3: Apply for the Residence Visa
Once the passport is in hand, apply for the residence visa straight away. Don’t wait for Day 119.
In Dubai
Apply through GDRFA Dubai, the DubaiNow app or an Amer centre. Fees and the upload list appear in the app before you pay.
In other emirates: the ICP online route
Outside Dubai, apply on the ICP website, the UAEICP app or at an approved typing centre. ICP’s fee for a newborn’s residence permit is AED 350, as reported by Gulf Today:
| ICP fee item | Amount |
| Application fee | AED 100 |
| Issuance fee | AED 100 |
| Smart services fee | AED 100 |
| E-services and ICP fee | AED 50 |
| Total | AED 350 |
Two ICP rules catch parents out. An application with missing documents is returned, and after three returns it’s rejected outright. Only the issuance fee comes back.
Documents ICP asks for
- Baby’s original passport, valid for at least six months
- Baby’s birth certificate and a colour photo
- Sponsor’s passport copy and Emirates ID
- Mother’s passport copy and both parents’ Emirates IDs
- Sponsor’s salary certificate and employment contract
- Tenancy contract: Ejari in Dubai, Tawtheeq in Abu Dhabi
- Health insurance for the baby
Upload everything the first time. A complete file is the fastest file.
The sponsor’s salary rule still applies
Your baby’s visa is a family visa. The sponsor needs a salary of AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation.
If your own visa expires soon, renew it first. Changing jobs at the same time? Your new work permit may need your attested degree certificate, so start that early.

Step 4: Emirates ID and Health Insurance
The Emirates ID application runs alongside the residence visa. Keep the receipt until the card arrives.
Babies don’t take the medical fitness test. It applies only to family members aged 18 and over.
Health insurance is mandatory for sponsored dependants in Dubai. Start the policy before you apply, so the certificate is ready to upload.
Does Your Baby’s Birth Certificate Need Attestation?
Yes, for two different reasons. Parents mix them up all the time.
For the UAE residence visa
The UAE Government’s residence visa requirements list an attested birth certificate for dependent children. A DHA or DoH stamp counts as the MOHAP seal.
For your embassy and your home country
The Indian and Philippine missions want the certificate attested by UAE MOFA. You’ll need the same attestation later for school admission, Aadhaar, inheritance or property in your home country.
Baby born outside the UAE?
That’s a different route. The foreign birth certificate needs attestation in the country that issued it, then the UAE Embassy and UAE MOFA.
Indian families can follow our Indian birth certificate attestation in the UAE guide. Your baby then enters on an entry permit and applies for residence here.
Missed the 120 Days? How the Fine Adds Up
The UAE Government sets a fine of AED 100 for every day past Day 120. Your baby also can’t leave the UAE until the visa is done.
| Day you finish | Days late | Fine |
| Day 121 | 1 | AED 100 |
| Day 130 | 10 | AED 1,000 |
| Day 150 | 30 | AED 3,000 |
| Day 180 | 60 | AED 6,000 |
| Day 240 | 120 | AED 12,000 |
If you’re already late, apply today. The fine grows every day the file sits.
Bring whatever is holding you up, usually the passport, to GDRFA or ICP, and ask how to regularise the file. Keep every receipt.
Six Mistakes New Parents Can Make
- Waiting for the passport before registering the birth: Registration comes first, and it has its own 30-day limit.
- Leaving the marriage certificate until the embassy asks: By then, the clock is half gone.
- Skipping the MOFA attestation on the birth certificate: Indian and Philippine missions turn the application back.
- Accepting a misspelled name: Every later document copies the error.
- Booking a flight home before the visa is issued: After Day 120, your baby can’t leave the UAE.
- Forgetting the sponsor’s own visa: If it expires mid-process, everything stops.

Yes. The UAE residence visa requires an attested birth certificate for dependent children. Your embassy will also want it attested by UAE MOFA before issuing the baby’s passport.
What happens after 120 days?
A fine of AED 100 applies for every extra day. Your baby can’t leave the UAE until the residence visa is issued.
How much does a newborn baby visa cost in the UAE?
ICP’s newborn residence permit fee is AED 350 outside Dubai. Add the passport, Emirates ID, insurance, attestation and translation costs.
Can my baby travel before the residence visa is issued?
Only with a valid passport and within the 120 days. After Day 120, exit is blocked until the visa is done.
How do I attest a UAE birth certificate for use in India?
